We know that it is God who through His Holy Spirit draws people to himself, but He has commanded us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. This is indeed a great privilege which has been given to us as followers of Christ. Many methods have used over the years in spreading the Gospel some of which could well have been very off-putting to the listeners.
ALPHA COURSE
In the early nineteen nineties a church in London known as Holy Trinity Brompton devised a course of eleven weeks which set out the plan of Jesus Christ for the lives of men and women. Nicky Gumble who had been a barrister in London became a priest and preached fifteen sermons which have been recorded in various forms including DVD's. He has a very special way of presenting the Gospel and his various anecdotes are very amusing. The course is made up as follows;
Week 1 - Is there more to life than this ?
Week 2 - Who is Jesus ?
Week 3 - Why did Jesus die ?
Week 4 - How can I be sure of my faith ?
Week 5 - Why and how should I read the Bible ?
Week 6 - Why and how do I pray ?
Week 7 - How does God guide us ?
Week -End - Talk 1 Who is the Holy Spirit ?
Talk 2 What does the Holy Spirit do ?
Talk 3 How can I be filled with the Spirit ?
Talk 4 How can I make the most of the rest of my life ?
Week 8 - How can I resist evil ?

PRISON MINISTRY
Out of alpha a prison ministry evolved which is now peculiar to Southern Africa and is now known as LOOSE THOSE CHAINS. God has blessed this ministry greatly and it has grown a great deal especially in recent days . One particular prisoner who had murdered 22 people (that he remembered ) came to know Christ and although still incarcerated is now known as Pastor and working for Christ inside the prison. The work has spread to other African countries and most denominations are getting involved in this ministry. One of our members Peter Cunnington who was involved with ALPHA for about ten years and is still involved is heavily involved in the prison ministry. Because of rejection by society and family released prisoners have great difficulty in finding jobs and this is one aspect which Peter and his fellow helpers are concentrating on.
